Returning for our third collaboration with Barrel Lane, Backwoods Distilling Co. continues to champion a distinctly local approach to whisky making. Founded by Leigh and Bree Attwood in Victoria's High Country, the award-winning distillery is known for its focus on heritage grain varieties, sustainable farming partnerships and building flavour from Australian ingredients and producers.
For this exclusive release, Backwoods has combined heritage barley, a touch of red gum-smoked malt and rare Australian Apera casks that spent decades maturing fortified wine before finding a second life in whisky. Rather than heavily charring the barrels, the team opted for a lighter toast and char, preserving the character of the casks and allowing layers of dried fruit richness, warming spice and oak sweetness to shine through.
The result is a beautifully balanced single malt, opening with campfire smoke, buttery toffee and dried fruits before unfolding into sticky figs, toasted nuts, smoked honey and creamy vanilla. A long, warming finish carries soft chocolate, sweet spice and lingering wood smoke, making this a rewarding whisky from first sip to last.

How much is a subscription?
Bottles range from $135 to $165 depending on the whisky, with higher ABV and very rare releases sitting at the upper end. Every whisky is an exclusive release crafted for our members - before each shipment we will send you the full picture, the distillery, the cask, the tasting notes and the price, so you can decide whether that bottle's for you. You'll only ever pay for the whiskies you say yes to.
Can I skip a month or cancel?
Of course. Life happens, shelves fill up, and some months you just don't need another bottle. Skip a release, take a break, update your delivery frequency or cancel anytime through your member's portal.
What kind of whisky do I receive?
Australian craft whisky, small batch, straight from the distillery. Our WSET qualified tasting panel tries every whisky before we commit to it, because we're only sending something we'd pour for our own mates. These releases are made exclusively for our members and never reach a bottle shop. The only people who ever taste them are the members who received them.
